I decided to head to a local pine savannah area to search for late summer orchids. There are a couple of varieties of these exotic wild flowers that bloon in the Croatan National Forest in late summer. I was surprised by the variety of wild flowers I found blooming considering the severe draught we’ve been experiencing this year. Below are a few images from the outing including a shot of a white fringed orchid.
