Some years it seems like there are hundreds of these little guys in and around my yard. Other years they’re almost rare. So far this hasn’t been a banner year for these cute little frogs but there are a few around. The American Tree Frog, Hyla cinerea, found throughout the southeastern United States. A medium sized green frog up to 2.5 inches the males are slightly smaller than females. They inhabit ponds, lakes, bald cypress swamps, cattail marshes and other wetland areas. I frequently find them at night hanging out around the porch lights where the catch bugs to feed on. Here’s a couple photos of one of my backyard buddies.
