For the last day or two photo forums and blogs have been all about the newly announced Canon pro camera body, the 1Dx. Honestly I am totally underwhelmed. Why? I’m sure it’s a great camera with revolutionary new technology but lets be honest: It’s the artist not the equipment. Since the so-called “digital revolution” in photography we’ve tended to put too much emphasis on technology and paid too little attention to talent and skill. I think that’s a shame. Early photographers managed to make absolutely amazing images with rudimentary equipment. Today when one views an amazing image the reaction is just as likely to be “you must have a really nice camera/lens” as it is “you have a great sense of composition/a wonderful vision.” Cameras and lenses are simply tools to be used to bring one’s imagination to life.
